Lana Threkheld joined Veterans Education Success as a Legal Fellow in September of 2018. Lana earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center where she received honors for her commitment to pro-bono service. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a B.A. in psychology and a B.A. criminal justice.
During her time in law school, Lana served as a staff editor on the Georgetown Entertainment and Media Law Alliance Law Review. Lana’s legal experience includes serving as a legislative intern for Florida State Representative Jose Felix Diaz, a judicial extern for the Honorable Vicki Ashworth of El Dorado County Superior Court, a legal intern for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, a legal intern for the U.S. Forest Service, and an MLK Fellow with the Legal Aid of North Carolina. As an MLK Fellow at the Legal Aid of North Carolina, Lana worked on several consumer protection and fraud cases, and litigated cases under the NC Student Practice Rule.
In addition to these experiences, Lana participated in the Street Law Practicum at Georgetown University Law Center where she taught a course in a D.C. high school preparing students to compete in a mock trial competition at the D.C. Superior Court. Her time spent teaching shed light on the inherent issues facing students, particularly being underprepared for higher education.
Lana is passionate about improving access to higher education and helping underrepresented populations.
