Dear Ms. Wofford:
Thank you for your recent communication dated October 5, 2021, to the Honorable Gilbert Cisneros, Under Secretary ofDefense for Personnel and Readiness, concerning Executive Order 13607, “Establishing Principles of Excellence (POE) for Educational Institutions Serving Service Members, Veterans, Spouses, and Other Family Members.” I have been asked to respond to your correspondence on his behalf.
Foremost, the Department of Defense agrees that Executive Order 13607 is as important today as when it was first signed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, in April 2012. The philosophy undergirding the various agency processes that emerged as a result of the POE remains intact. DoD continuously reviews its voluntary education policies and processes, discussing developments quarterly with the Military Departments. Most recently, such discussions have been in regard to the decision support suite that includes TA Decide, though several other Veterans Education Success interest items have also been under discussion.
Thank you for your work on behalf of Service members and their families. The Department appreciates your interest in the voluntary and off-duty education programs.
Sincerely,
W Shawn G. Skelly
