Established by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954, Veteran’s Day is an opportunity to recognize those who faithfully served our Nation as a member of the armed forces. It is also an opportunity to recognize the fact that service takes many forms, and heavily relies on the support of those around our service members, including families and the broader community.
Service in the military has many implications, and it is common for many of us to express our gratitude to those who have borne the flag with a courteous, “thank you for your service.” This Veteran’s Day, we encourage taking that sentiment one step further, and considering what post-military opportunities look like for all veterans.
For veterans who served an honorable tour of service, they can access valuable education benefits. It is up to us as a Nation to ensure those benefits provide veterans with the best possible training and education opportunities.
As we reflect today on the meaning of service, and the social contract we have with those who have worn the Nation’s cloth, let us be more than grateful; let us be the ones who fight hard for the deserved future every veteran and their family have earned.
Happy Veteran’s Day to all those who have served in the defense of our Republic with an unwavering commitment to duty.
