Veterans Education Success sent a FOIA request to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), seeking the number of students using VA funding and enrolled at the Art Institute of Colorado between November 2017 and December 2018 and the total amount of VA funding sent to the school in that time. In November 2017, the Art Institute of Colorado was warned that it was not in compliance with all accreditation requirements. In January 2018, the school was downgraded to a candidate for accreditation and was no longer accredited. In December 2018, the school closed permanently. VA responded with the information below:
