Veterans Education Success Announces Barmak Nassirian as Vice President for Higher Education Policy
Washington, D.C. – Carrie Wofford, President of Veterans Education Success, announced the addition of Barmak Nassirian as Vice President for Higher Education Policy. In this role, Nassirian will expand the organization’s capacity to advance higher education success for veterans, service members, and military families.
“We are thrilled and humbled to welcome Barmak Nassirian to Veterans Education Success,” said President Carrie Wofford of Veterans Education Success. “He brings a wealth of experience in federal postsecondary policy, and his insights and keen understanding will be an incredible asset to our growing team.”
Nassirian brings more than three decades of experience in higher education and is a nationally-known expert on multiple facets of the higher education sector, including institutional finance, academic policy, accreditation, and federal student aid. His past policy experience in Washington includes leading roles at several higher education associations, work on the last three congressional reauthorizations of the Higher Education Act, extensive regulatory activity with federal agencies, including multiple rounds of negotiated rulemaking with the U.S. Department of Education, and testimony before congressional committees on various higher education topics. He brings with him a wide network of contacts on both sides of the aisle on Capitol Hill, within key federal agencies, as well as with the media and the broader national policy community.
Most recently, Nassirian served as the Director of Federal Relations and Policy Analysis at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, where he represented the association before Congress and the Education Department, including serving on multiple negotiated rulemaking committees over 16 years with the organization. He also served nearly 15 years as associate executive director of the Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. Nassirian holds a master’s degree in comparative literature from the University of Maryland.
Nassirian’s hire is part of the organization’s plan to broaden policy roles within Veterans Education Success and hire more staff to ensure career and education success for military families. As part of the organization’s growth, William Hubbard will shift his role from Interim Chief Policy Officer to Vice President for Veterans & Military Policy.
