Cameron Newberry always knew he wanted to go to college, but felt he needed to serve his country before jumping back to his studies. This led the 23-year-old to serve in the Marine Corps from 2014-2018. Now, the veteran is a sophomore at Wilmington University, hoping to head to law school after he graduates. And he credits the GI Bill’s educational benefits with helping him make the transition back to civilian life after his time in the Marines. “The whole thing went smooth,” Newberry said. “The benefits that come from it, to say the least, are incredible.”But not all prospective student veterans get as lucky as Newberry. Thousands of veterans across the country have been victims of a loophole that some prominent for-profit colleges have been exploiting.
