RE: Docket ID ED-2023-OPE-0089

Dear Mr. Secretary,

The undersigned organizations representing servicemembers, veterans, military families, and survivors are pleased to submit comments in support of the Department of Education’s May 19, 2023, Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in the Federal Register. We write to commend the Department for proposing regulations that will significantly improve educational outcomes for veterans and military-connected students when they go into effect.

The constituency we represent and the educational programs administered by the Departments of Defense (DOD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) are significantly affected by the quality assurance and program integrity safeguards devised by the Department of Education. By improving higher education requirements in federal student aid, the Department is protecting not only its own programs, but also DOD and VA educational benefits on which student veterans and military-connected students rely.

We thank you and your staff for the diligence in the proposed regulations, and for looking out for students within our community.

Sincerely,
