The devastating trend of school closures continues to negatively affect student veterans, leaving them with questions about their GI Bill benefits. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) inappropriately set a requirement for veterans to have transferred to a new school before seeing what their benefits eligibility might be. We urged VA to fix this. However, when they didn’t, we went to Congress and got a unanimously-passed law (the VETS Credit Act) that ensures veterans can get their GI Bill benefits “restored” before they pick a new school. Enacted unanimously December 19, 2022.
